6 Reasons to Visit your Dentist Today

When was your last visit to your dentist?

If it’s been longer than six months, then keep on reading to find why you need to make an appointment ASAP.

Bleeding Gums:

If you’ve got bleeding gums but have never been diagnosed with gum disease, then it’s time to see a dentist. Active untreated gum disease can lead to bone loss and loose teeth. If you’re not flossing and brushing properly, then gum disease can rear its ugly head. Gum disease is directly linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, pancreatic cancer, diabetes and erectile dysfunction. So to keep your sex life and the rest of your body healthy, make sure to see your dentist regularly.

Jaw Pain & Headaches:

Pain in the jaw which can lead to headaches is not normal. It happens because your bite is out of whack. Malocclusion (bad bite) can be fixed with Invisalign or traditional orthodontic treatment. By aligning the teeth, you align the bite, and get rid of any jaw pain. Also, if you’re a grinder, then you might need crowns or a special appliance to help protect your teeth from grinding. And only a dentist can give you treatment you need to feel better.

Bad Breath:

Having bad breath is not normal. It comes from the naturally occurring bacteria in your mouth which feed off of food particles. They then release a toxin and attack the soft tissue causing gum disease. Gum disease is a chronic infection under your gums which can cause bad breath. So make an appointment to see your dentist to learn how to combat gum disease and get rid of your bad breath.

Toothaches:

A toothache is caused by an infection that is very deep and has hit the nerve of the tooth thus causing pain. You can avoid toothaches by catching the infection when it is smaller, and only a cavity. Then you can treat it with a filling, instead of a root canal and crown. So if you want to save money, spend less time in the dental chair, and avoid pain, then you need to visit the dentist regularly so s/he can catch cavities early on. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

Oral Cancer:

Oral cancer doesn’t always hurt. And it doesn’t always appear red. An oral cancer lesion in the mouth can look like almost anything. So if you want to be sure that nothing strange is going on inside your mouth, then be sure to visit the dentist at regular intervals so s/he can do an oral cancer screening. This way anything unusual in your mouth can be found before it gets to a late stage of cancer and requires surgery.

Cracked Teeth:

A crack in a tooth is invisible to the naked eye…until it isn’t and you’re in pain. If you wait until you have pain then you risk losing the tooth. So be sure to get regular dental check-ups and x-rays so the dentist can find the early signs of cracked teeth and treat them before it becomes too late.

Remember, a healthy smile is always in style!
